Yesterday, we postulated that St. John’s, after their win over Cincinnati, would have to be in the NCAA Tournament at this point. Today, all the Bracketologist folks have put out their brackets and, sure enough, there they are. But where? When? Let’s take a gander at all these fake, fun guesses.
All right, let’s go.
Joe Lunardi, ESPN’s Bracketology: No. 7 seed, in Tucson, vs. No. 10 seed Georgia, in Southeast regional. If they won this one, they’d be likely to play No. 2 seed San Diego State, a game that they’d have to feel at least somewhat confident about.
Jerry Palm, CBSSportsline.com (and CollegeRPI.com): No. 6 seed, in Chicago, vs. No. 11 seed Virginia Tech, in Southwest regional. If they won this one, they’d likely play No. 3 seed Wisconsin, a team that traditionally struggles in the NCAA Tournament.
Andy Glockner, Sports Illustrated: No. 7 seed, in Tucson, vs. No. 10 seed Baylor. If they won this one, they’d be likely to play No. 2 seed San Diego State. (Again.)
Blogging The Bracket: No. 8 seed, in Tulsa, vs. No. 9 seed George Mason, in Southwest regional. If they won this one, they’d be likely to play No. 1 seed Texas.
Bracketology 101: No. 7 seed, in Tucson, vs. No. 10 seed Utah State, in East regional. If they won this one, they’d be likely to play No. 2 seed San Diego State. (Again.)
College Hoops Net: No. 8 seed, vs. No. 9 seed George Mason. (College Hoops Net doesn’t project locations or second-round opponents.)
With the Red Storm facing a tough game tonight at Marquette, these seeds can only go down, but still: They are securely in.
Also in good shape: How about those Long Island Blackbirds? The NEC leaders are included in every projection. Their status respectively from above:
No. 15 seed, playing No. 2 seed Notre Dame in first round.
No. 16 seed, playing No. 1 seed Ohio State in first round.
No. 16 seed, playing fellow No. 16 seed Texas Southern in play-in game.
No. 16 seed, playing No. 1 seed Texas in first round.
No. 16 seed, playing No. 1 seed Ohio State in first round.
No. 16 seed, playing fellow No. 16 seed Texas Southern in play-in game.
If they get in, we hope they avoid that play-in game. But yeah: Two NYC teams in the tournament. This is the heyday.
