Reports: Andy Pettitte to Announce His Retirement Tomorrow

According to multiple reports, the left-hander will meet with Yankees officials today and will announce his retirement tomorrow at Yankee Stadium. (Michael Kay was the first to report the news.) Brian Cashman has said that he’s been proceeding as if Pettitte was going to retire, but now even the slightest hope that Pettitte could join the suspect Yankees rotation has evaporated (assuming, you know, that he doesn’t un-retire). Pettitte will end his career with a 240–138 regular-season record, and his 203 victories as a Yankee places him third on the franchise’s all-time wins list, behind Whitey Ford and Red Ruffing. Pettitte also started 42 postseason games — 38 of them for the Yankees — compiling a 19–10 record. His nineteen postseason wins are the most all-time.
