Via the Denver Post, Carmelo Anthony said today that if he’s not traded by the February 24 deadline, he’d “take a real hard look” at signing an extension with the Nuggets — one that’s been on the table since June (and one that would allow him to avoid signing his next contract under a new collective bargaining agreement). And since this comes directly from Anthony — as opposed to coming from some reporter’s unnamed source — perhaps the Nuggets won’t be quite as desperate to trade Anthony now, knowing they’ve still got at least a chance to keep him, even after all that’s happened to this point.
