CC Sabathia was listed at 309 pounds last year, enough to earn him the title of baseball’s heaviest player. But a source tells Buster Olney that Sabathia’s shed 30 pounds from his six-foot-seven frame during off-season workouts. (The Times confirmed with a baseball official that Sabathia has lost weight but couldn’t confirm exactly how much. Perhaps a Biggest Loser–style public weigh-in at spring training should be in order.) In any case, losing weight means less pressure on Sabathia’s right knee, which required surgery after the postseason to correct a small meniscus tear. [ESPN New York, Bats/NYT]
