Bartolo Colon finished third in the spring training Rotation Derby but made the team as a reliever in case a starting job opened up, which it did when the Yankees put Phil Hughes on the disabled list with a dead arm. And so while Hughes spent time yesterday throwing a “high intensity” bullpen session — for whatever that’s worth — Bartolo Colon got the start in Toronto and earned his first victory since 2009, allowing two runs over six and two thirds innings, striking out seven, and walking two. The Yankees — who got an RBI triple and a home run from Curtis Granderson en route to the 6–2 victory over the Jays — remain the only team in the majors that hasn’t lost consecutive games this season.
