Andre Ethier hasn’t actually gotten a hit since Tuesday — he was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday with elbow inflamation, and the Dodgers had an off day yesterday — but assuming he’s healthy enough to play tonight, he’ll bring his 29-game hit streak to Citi Field when those Dodgers face Jonathon Niese and the Mets. Ethier hasn’t hit Mets pitching very well in his career: His .147 average versus the Mets is the third lowest all-time among players with at least 100 at-bats against them. (He’s never faced Niese, has a .414 career batting average against tomorrow’s starter, Chris Young, and is one-for-two against Sunday’s starter, R.A. Dickey.) The Times today raises the question of whether Ethier is even truly chasing the same record now that he’s sat out a game — Joe DiMaggio didn’t miss an inning during his 56-game streak, and Pete Rose didn’t miss a start in his modern-day National League–record 44-game streak — but baseball rules are pretty clear that it’s not an issue, officially. And if you’re wondering, tickets for tonight’s game, as of this writing, at least, can be had on StubHub for as little as $10.
