After he was diagnosed with a tear of the anterior capsule of his right shoulder, the Mets pitcher had to decide between season-ending surgery and rehab. And so now it’s official: He’s chosen the former. (Because of his incentive-laden contract — he’s had a history of injuries — the Mets are only on the hook for $1.1 million.) Young’s season ends, then, with a 1-0 record and a 1.88 ERA in four starts.
