The Mets’ top pitching prospect — who appeared in 33 games for the major-league club last year and made five starts for AAA Buffalo this year — has a complete MCL tear in his right elbow, and surgery has been recommended. Mejia plans to make the trip to Birmingham, Alabama, to visit with the one and only Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion, but, according to the News, major elbow surgery typically sidelines a pitcher for about a year.
