Well, sort of. Once upon a time, the Mr. Met mascot had a female companion named, as you’d imagine, Mrs. Met. On his Uni Watch blog today, Paul Lukas spoke with Lynn Farrell, who in 1975 and 1976, donned Mrs. Met’s plaster of Paris noggin for $100 per game in cash. It’s worth a read — you can learn all about Farrell’s strategy for avoiding male fans who’d grab at her legs — but our favorite part of the interview is this: Mr. Met and Mrs. Met (as in, the humans inside the costumes) actually got married. Farrell’s boyfriend already had the Mr. Met gig when she got the job at 17, and shortly after she finished as Mrs. Met, they tied the knot. They’d eventually get divorced after 25 years, however. So does that mean this SportsCenter commercial, featuring a happily married Met family, is just a bunch of lies? [Uni Watch]
