It was reported last month that the Eagles would be first in line to try to sign Plaxico Burress whenever the NFL lockout ends. Michael Vick is on the record as saying he would like Burress to sign with the Philadelphia team. (Also, Burress sported a Phillies hat when he was released from prison earlier this week, though if we learned anything from the LeBron Watch, it’s that a player’s choice of baseball team headwear might not be the best indicator of where he’ll sign as a free agent.) Anyway, perhaps Burress signing with the Eagles isn’t such a foregone conclusion: An AP report cites “a person familiar with the team’s thinking” who says that Burress isn’t in the team’s plans for the 2011 season. Still, owner Jeffrey Lurie said yesterday that team brass would consider whether Burress was a fit for the Eagles and that “we evaluate case by case.” For what it’s worth, Andy Reid was vague when discussing Burress yesterday (“It’s like any of the other free agents; there’s nothing you can do there”), though he’s right that there’s nothing the Eagles, or any other team, can do until the lockout ends. So stay tuned, we guess. [NYP]
