One of the cool things about minor-league baseball is the chance, every once in a while, to see a star player in some rehab games before he returns to his major-league club. It’s the reason this blog encouraged you to blow off work and watch Jose Reyes play for the Cyclones last month. (The odd juxtaposition of a big name playing in a relatively small-time setting was never more apparent than when Derek Jeter was forced to wear this jersey during his rehab stint in Trenton earlier this month.) Having said all that: Even a huge star making an appearance in Moosic, Pennsylvania, will apparently hear some boos if he, say, misplays a pair of foul pop-ups, as Alex Rodriguez did last night for triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. (You can see the plays here.) Rodriguez was reportedly moving tentatively in the field last night, which isn’t the type of report you want to hear from such games. But it nonetheless appears he’s getting closer to a return to the Yankees — perhaps as soon as tomorrow. [The Star-Ledger]
