CC Sabathia: ‘I’m Right-Handed’

CC Sabathia.

Yesterday, the Yankee Stadium scoreboard showed a video of CC Sabathia using his right hand to feed a giraffe at Busch Gardens during spring training. And so later on, a reporter asked Sabathia if he’d done this to protect his left hand — the one he, you know, pitches with. His answer? “No, I’m righthanded. I do everything with my right hand, including write. I played one year of T-ball righthanded and couldn’t catch, was uncoordinated. My dad changed me over, gave me a lefty glove and it just took. But my right hand is my dominant hand.” Sure enough, a quick image search confirms he uses his right hand to sign autographs. (He bats lefty, however. So perhaps it’s more accurate to say he’s mixed-handed.) On a related note: Has anyone checked with A.J. Burnett to see if he’s ever tried throwing with his left hand? Maybe it would do him some good, too. [NYDN]
