Interesting stuff over at Bronx Banter, which digs into this year’s Yankees team and its relative lack of late-inning heroics. (Anyone who’s watched the last two nights understands how watching this year’s team late in the game is far different than watching the pie-happy World Series team of 2009.) Among the findings: The 2011 team’s OPS+ in close-and-late situations is among the Yankees’ lowest since 1996, and it has one of the Yankees’ lowest winning percentages over that time span when tied or trailing after seven innings, despite a strong bullpen. (The Yankees have three walk-off victories so far this year. From 1950 through 2010, they had fewer than five just six times, and fewer than four just four times.) There’s more, too, plus some charts and graphs — one of which, yes, is a pie chart. [Bronx Banter]
