This is a real thing: Beginning next Wednesday, the Algonquin Seaport Theater will play home to “The Derek Jeter Plays,” a festival that features six short one-act plays inspired by the Yankees shortstop. Among the offerings: I’m Derek Jeter, in which a guy who looks nothing like Jeter pretends to be the Yankees captain in order to pick up women, and Pasta Diving Jeter, which (according to DNAinfo.com) is about a fanatic’s fantasies of Jeter that go unfulfilled, but which we’d like to think is entirely about one of our favorite tweets from the late, great Fake Michael Kay Twitter feed. Also: The show opens with an adaptation of the song “Screw Loose” from the musical Cry-Baby. See the entire lineup here. [Algonquin Seaport Theater via NYDN]
