The New York football teams may have disappointed us yesterday, but The Sports Section’s official favorite athlete did not. John Skelton — who we’ll remind you attended Fordham (Joe’s alma mater) and was drafted by the Cardinals (Will’s pro team of choice) — wasn’t perfect yesterday, when for the second straight week he started in place of the injured Kevin Kolb. He threw three touchdown passes, but also threw a pair of interceptions from inside the Arizona twenty-yard line. However, down three late in the fourth quarter, he led Arizona down field on an eleven-play, 87-yard drive, which culminated in a touchdown pass to Early Doucet. Final score: Arizona 21, Philadelphia 17. So just to recap: A quarterback out of Fordham led the buzz saw that is the Arizona Cardinals on a game-winning fourth-quarter drive to drop the Eagles to 3-6. This blog approves. [AP via ESPN]
Attaboy, Skelton!
