Since July 1 of last year — after Donnie Walsh left his position as Knicks president — Glen Grunwald has been serving as the team’s interim general manager. And today, with the Knicks headed for the playoffs for the second consecutive season, they removed the “interim” tag from Grunwald’s title and named him executive vice-president and general manager. In a rare interview this weekend, with Howard Beck of the Times, Grunwald wouldn’t address the uncertainty that comes along with that “interim” tag, saying only, “I want to stick with the Knicks in whatever role Mr. Dolan would like to have me.” And so today’s news means he will indeed be sticking around, minus that pesky “interim” tag. Grunwald has been with the organization since 2006, when he was hired as senior vice-president of basketball operations.
