The Yankees entered their series with the Angels riding a five-game winning streak, but the Angels entered on a six-game winning streak — and it’s Mike Scioscia’s club that has remained hot. Last night, two different Angels outfielders robbed Nick Swisher of an extra base hit — video here — and Robinson Cano had a rough night at the plate, striking out twice with the bases loaded. (The second of those strikeouts ended the game. Cano, by the way, is just 1-for-10 with the bases loaded this year, though that one hit is a grand slam.) Dan Haren allowed just one run in seven innings work, while Andy Pettitte — who’d been terrific in his last two outings — made some mistakes, including home runs by both Albert Pujols and Mark Trumbo. The Yankees try to avoid a sweep in Anaheim tonight, when Ivan Nova takes the ball against Ervin Santana.
The Angels Stay Hot, at the Expense of the Yankees
