Okay, so the Rangers are now facing a Game Seven, the Yankees’ bullpen is imploding, and the Knicks’ season is done. Not a good night in New York sports. Fortunately, you have the old, reliable, DOMINANT Mets. Yep: The Mets swept the Phillies with a 10–6 win last night, their first series sweep in Philadelphia in six years. The big hit was a three-run homer from Ike Davis, who has been one of the Mets’ worst hitters this year and, one would have to think, is due for some sort of turnaround. (Let’s get him over the Mendoza line first.) It was the Mets’ fifth win in a row, erasing the bad vibes of that Astros series, and brings the Mets within a half-game of first place. First place! Meanwhile, the Phillies are ensconced in last place. The Mets’ Baseball Prospectus playoff odds are at 9.3 percent, which is a darned sight higher than anyone would have ever expected them to be on May 10. The Mets are off today and begin a three-game series in that monstrous Marlins Park this weekend. The Mets are the New York City sports savior!
