Johan Santana, tonight.

Johan Santana has just thrown the first no-hitter in Mets history. In the franchise’s 8,020th game, Santana threw a career-high 134 pitches but was allowed to go the distance, getting David Freese to strike out to end the ballgame. Mike Baxter made a spectacular catch in the seventh inning to preserve the no-hitter, crashing into the wall in left field. (Baxter would leave the game with an injury.) In the sixth inning, Carlos Beltran hit a ball down the left field line that actually appeared to catch chalk, but it was ruled a foul ball. Oh, and you’re wondering, yes, the website nonohitters.com has already been updated with the good news.
