Even though he’s a Yankee, Robinson Cano isn’t a guy who is booed often. He’s got a huge smile, an extremely likable game, and has the distinct advantage of playing for the Yankees but not being Derek Jeter or Alex Rodriguez; he’s not the sort of guy you single out. But last night, Cano got enough boos to last him a couple of years. During the Home Run Derby at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Royals fans let Cano have it, unleashing a torrent of vitriol at the Yankees second baseman. It was really quite something; it took you aback to watch it. Why, you ask? Because Cano, the “captain” of the American League Home Run Derby team, didn’t pick hometown boy Billy Butler. This was similar to last year, when Arizona’s Justin Upton wasn’t picked, but Royals fans cared a lot more than Diamondbacks fans and just hammered Cano. It apparently worked: Cano, the defending champion, didn’t hit a single homer. Fortunately, this is a meaningless, bombastic, brainless competition that you now never have to think about again. We do wonder whether booing Cano is gonna become a thing every time the Yankees visit the Royals. That might be kind of fun, actually.
Man, Robinson Cano Sure Did Get Booed Last Night
Booooooooooooo!
