More money for this guy.

The NBA made a few minor rule changes yesterday, most notably ones involving replay. (Refs will be able to review both late goaltending calls and flagrant fouls.) They didn’t do anything about flopping, like many people wanted them to, though we’re still not sure how that would have worked anyway. But the real piece of news: The NBA has approved a plan to allow a “small” two-inch-by-two-inch patch on the shoulder of NBA uniforms … that will have a sponsor’s logo on it. That’s right, the inevitable fourth wall is falling: Team sports are now going to start having advertising on their jerseys for regular season games in 2013–14. (The NBA has experimented with advertising on jerseys in exhibition games before. Apparently it was a successful experiment.) We have been saying for years that eventually pro sports uniforms will look like NASCAR suits. This is how it starts. We always knew the NBA people would be the ones to kick this off.
