It certainly feels like Mets first baseman Ike Davis has had a lousy year, doesn’t it? There was that terrible start, the various rumored demotions, the notion that the Mets might start playing Lucas Duda more at first, just so no one would have to watch him play left field anymore. Through it all, Davis kept plugging away, and last night, he hit two homers in a 6-2 win over the Pirates. Those homers gave him 30 on the year, and he’s the first Met to reach 30 since 2008, when Carlos Delgado and David Wright reached the plateau. That means Davis is the first Met to hit 30 homers at Citi Field. If you want to have some fun, you can note that Davis, with 56 career homers, is now 29th all-time in Mets history, four behind Jim Hickman and Mookie Wilson. (David Wright’s 50 behind Darryl Strawberry for No. 1, by the way.) Anyway, it’s almost the last week of the season, so let’s enjoy these little factoids while we can, before baseball in Flushing vanishes for the long, cold, hard winter.
Hey, Ike Davis Has 30 Homers, Somehow
Ike, Ike, Baby.
