The NHL lockout has been in effect for nearly three months now, and so, with no actual games to report on, we’re going to link to a different hockey video every day until a new CBA is reached. Today: what the Rangers did during the 1994-95 lockout.
Back when the first NHL lockout ended in January of 1995, some Rangers appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman to read a Top Ten List: “Top Ten Ways the Rangers Spent Their Time Off.” (This isn’t to be confused with the list that played on the Garden scoreboard as part of their Stanley Cup banner-raising ceremony around the same time.) Hockey fans have suffered through three lockouts now, so we’re not sure we’ll be able to laugh this time around at all the time off the players have had, even if this thing ends in time to play a shortened season. But we hope we’ll at least get the chance to find out.
And so, on Day 90 of the NHL lockout, here’s a behind-the-scenes look at that lockout-themed Top Ten List. Letterman’s audience, as you’ll see, especially liked Brian Leetch’s contribution.
