The NHL lockout has been in effect for more than three months now, and so, with no actual games to report on, we’re going to link to a different hockey video every day until a new CBA is reached. And because we like to keep things festive, from now until Christmas, said hockey videos will all be holiday-themed. Today: fighting Santas!
From what we can gather from the commentary on this video by Sam Rosen and John Davidson, the Islanders once held a promotion in which the first thousand fans dressed as Santa got to enter Nassau Coliseum for free. The event must have involved all of the Santas being allowed out on the ice at some point, which is how we ended up with the following scenario: a bunch of Santas going after some guys in Rangers jerseys. (Those appear to be two different Rangers fans in the clip, since they’re wearing different numbers on their jerseys.)
Our favorite part is how Sam and JD are at first under the impression that this was some sort of staged gag but then realize that might not be the case.
And so, on Day 96 of the NHL lockout, we quote the Dropkick Murphys: “I’d like to take him out back and deck more than the halls.”
