lockouts suck

Random Hockey Video of the Day, Holiday Edition: The Sharks Celebrate the Season With Bad Acting

The NHL lockout has been in effect for more than three months now, and so, with no actual games to report on, we’re going to link to a different hockey video every day until a new CBA is reached. And because we like to keep things festive, from now until Christmas, said hockey videos will all be holiday-themed. Today: the increasingly elaborate San Jose Sharks holiday videos.

From 2009 to 2011, the San Jose Sharks filmed a holiday video each year starring a number of the team’s players. We don’t want to give too much away — all three of those videos are embedded below — but the Sharks players prove pretty game for some holiday silliness. We especially love that they get increasingly elaborate as the years go on, from a simple scene in 2009 to some graphics and additional production value in 2010 to a nearly nine-minute faux infomercial last year.

Of course, there won’t be anything like this for 2012: Because of the work-stoppage, Joe Thornton and company aren’t going to be filming any videos for the team to upload to its website this year. Just when you thought this lockout couldn’t be any more of a bummer …

And so, on Day 97 of the lockout, we hereby make a couple of Christmas wishes: We wish for the the return of the NHL — and for more teams to make videos like these next holiday season.
