Last night Ted Kennedy was honored at (where else?) the Kennedy Center with a musical celebration marking his birthday. James Taylor, Bernadette Peters, Bill Cosby, and even President Barack Obama performed. (Okay, Obama merely led everyone in a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday.”) Sixty to seventy of the senator’s family members were present, officially the largest number of Kennedys ever to assemble in the famed performance space named for their most famous family member. And, fittingly, it was Caroline who brought the house down with the best line of the night. After she took the stage, she surveyed the star-studded political crowd and marveled: “I never thought I’d be in a room with so many senators!”
