The first ads of the mayoral campaign from Democratic candidate Bill Thompson have ignited “class warfare,” according to papers that benefit from stirring up controversy. It’s true that Thompson’s ads claimed that the past eight years favored the “rich and powerful,” an implied swipe at Mayor Bloomberg, but he’s been saying things like that the whole campaign. Regardless, as the mayoral race begins to heat up, Thompson will win a big endorsement today when David Paterson and his vaunted 20 percent approval rating come out for the comptroller.
