The jury in John “Junior” Gotti’s racketeering trial told the court it was deadlocked today, eight days after it began deliberations. Federal Judge Kevin Castel told them to shut up and get back to work. It is “way too early in the game to do anything beyond that,” Castel said after the jury gave him a note that said “unable to reach a unanimous verdict.” If the jury fails to reach a unanimous decision, the trial could end in a mistrial, which would be Gotti’s fourth — leaving him one mistrial short of being eligible for a free smoothie.
