Stuart Emmrich to Take Over ‘Styles’ Section From Trip Gabriel

After twelve years of running the New York Times’ peppy “Styles” section, editor Trip Gabriel will return to writing for the paper as an education reporter. Gabriel oversaw both the Sunday and Thursday editions of the section, the latter of which he helped launch in 2005. He’ll be replaced by Stuart Emmrich, longtime travel editor of the Times, who himself launched the paper’s “Escapes” section. The Times’ Motoko Rich reported that executive editor Bill Keller said in an internal memo that he was “continuing the theme of ‘If it ain’t broke, fix it anyway,’” after his appointment last week of assistant managing editor Richard Berke to take over from Suzanne Daley as national editor of the paper.
