Mayor Bloomberg Thinks the Sidewalk Lanes Were a Kind Gesture to Tourists

We can honestly say we never considered the sunny interpretation of the tourist sidewalk lanes that Mayor Bloomberg offered up earlier today: “It certainly says something about our feeling for tourists. They’re willing to give up some space to the people that come here and support our industries.” He isn’t serious, is he? He’s just trying to sweep our beef with slow-walking (but economically vital) tourists under the rug, right? When a reporter asked whether Bloomberg thought the lanes perhaps reflected irritation with tourists, Bloomberg said, “You’ve got to be a pretty sick person to take it that way, I think.” No, he’s definitely not serious. Right? [Daily Politics/NYDN]
