slouching toward reform

House Approves Financial Overhaul Bill

After rejecting a motion offered by Republicans to send the bill back to the conference committee, the House has passed the Financial Regulation bill, 237-192. Meanwhile, the Senate vote has been pushed back to July 14, due to the impending funeral of Robert Byrd and the fact that folks have got barbecues to attend this weekend. A vote this week would be trying to “squeeze too much in” to senators’ schedules, Banking Committee Chairman Christopher Dodd said. And why rush it, really. It’s already been two years. [Bloomberg]
