Despite facing an ongoing ethics investigation, Representative Charlie Rangel formally announced his reelection campaign Sunday for the seat he has held since 1971. Does he have any concerns about the pesky little scandal that, you know, resulted in his stepping down from his place atop the House’s Ways and Means Committee in March? Nope! Apparently undeterred, Rangel — who turns 80 this week — told his applauding supporters in Washington Heights: “They can fire their best shot, but they just can’t walk over success, right?” In fact, his problems are basically just fabricated by the press, anyway! (At least, that’s what other people are saying.) “Most of the people actually believe we have been treated unfairly by the press,” Rangel told reporters after the announcement. “But I don’t make those comments. I’m just sharing them with you.”
