Senator Robert Byrd, the longest-serving Congress member in history, was admitted to a Washington-area hospital last week, and he’s in serious condition, his office said today. According to CNN, the 92-year-old Democrat from West Virginia was “initially thought to be suffering from heat exhaustion and severe dehydration. However, upon further examination by his doctors, other conditions have developed,” and Byrd is now “seriously ill.” Byrd has been a member of Congress for more than 57 years, and he has never lost an election.
