According to some car dealers in Kabul, 90 percent of cars on the roads of the Afghan capital are used Toyota Corollas. “It’s not good for the health. There’s big pollution,” complains the one authorized dealer of new Toyotas. Afghans started flocking toward the car in the late eighties (they hated the Soviet-made Volga), and imports increased under the Taliban. Most of the models are so old that they all probably have working brakes. [WP]
