How badly is the city hurting for money? First they ticketed a group of men for playing chess on the city’s chess tables, and now they’re fining old ladies $100 for throwing newspapers away in sidewalk garbage cans. Eighty-year-old Delia Gluckin of Inwood was cited for improper disposal over the weekend because the newspaper she threw away is considered “household trash” and not “litter.” We like the anonymous comment left on the ABA Journal’s write-up of the story: “next time drop it on the sidewalk, then pick it up and put it in.” [CBS New York]
