White people have been in the minority in New York City since the eighties, but now they also account for only 49.6 percent of the residents of the 23 counties in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut that constitute the greater New York metropolitan area, according to the 2010 Census, making it “the first major metropolitan area in the country outside the South or West in which non-Hispanic whites have become a minority of the population.” Sorry, Troubled Old White Guy.
