Officer Mallia and His Dog Blue Helped Discover the Serial Killer’s Victims

The discovery of ten remains on Long Island’s South Shore thought to be the victims of a serial killer or killers started with the search for 24-year-old Shannan Gilbert, a prostitute who disappeared last May. It was Officer John Mallia and his dog Blue, whom he trained as a puppy, that found the first body in the dense scrub brush of Ocean Parkway and four of the ten bodies after that. [NYT]
