New York is still miffed about the Census Bureau’s alleged failure to count approximately 50,000 city residents, primarily from Jackson Heights, Astoria, Bensonhurst, and Bay Ridge. In fact, the city has now filed a formal challenge with the Census Bureau. This isn’t just a matter of pride — federal funds are often distributed on the basis of population.
