On Wednesday night, Frank Rich talked to Rachel Maddow about some of the issues he addressed in this week’s issue of New York. Speaking about the NYPD’s early-ish, often overly aggressive approach to the temporary residents of Zuccotti Park, he said, “I think it inflamed public opinion in favor of the Occupy Wall Street demonstrators.” According to Rich, the recent violent scene at Occupy Oakland was both “horrifying” and set to “backfire” on those hoping to extinguish the increasingly global political effort: “It’s certainly not going to put out this movement, which just seems to be spreading and whose core issues are gaining in popularity.”
