After an eventful year at the Bronx Zoo with two animal escapes, both of which were chronicled on Twitter novelty accounts, the Wildlife Conservation Society, which manages the Bronx Zoo and several others in New York, has appointed a new president and CEO. He’s 47-year-old Dr. Cristián Samper, and his appointment actually has nothing to do with the wildly amusing 2011 escapes by the Bronx Zoo’s Egyptian cobra and a peahen. The previous WCS president and CEO Dr. Steven Sanderson announced his retirement in 2010, effective July 2012. But we anticipate some of the more ambitious inhabitants of the Bronx Zoo will start scheming soon to give Dr. Samper a warm, New York welcome.
