Biologists with the National Marine Fisheries Service completed their necropsy of the finback whale that washed up on the shore in Breezy Point on Wednesday. They noted that the animal was “emaciated” and had no food in its stomach when it died. An exact cause of death will be determined once tissue samples taken from the body have been analyzed. In the meantime, the whale was buried in nearby sand dunes belonging to the Gateway National Recreation Area, which sounds much nicer than sending it to a landfill.
