Obama Won’t Fight Legal Pot, But Doesn’t Quite Support It

In his first remarks on the legalization of marijuana in Colorado and Washington five weeks ago, President Obama told Barbara Walters that the federal government won’t be going after smokers in those states, even though pot remains illegal under federal law. “We’ve got bigger fish to fry,” Obama said, as millions of pot smokers rejoiced and also got a mysterious hankering for fried fish.

Obama, however, does not support the legalization of marijuana “at this point,” he said, partly because of the effects it would have on America’s youth. “There are a bunch of things I did that I regret when I was a kid,” Obama said. “My attitude is, substance abuse generally is not good for our kids, not good for our society.” Yep — Obama smoked pot as a teenager, and just look at him now.
