Crane Collapses Behind Giant Queens Pepsi Sign

Seven construction workers were injured today when a massive crane fell, trapping three people underneath, during work on a new 26-story building in Long Island City, Queens, right behind the Pepsi-Cola sign on the East River. The 300-foot device was owned by the New York Crane and Equipment Corporation, the same company involved in the deadly 2008 accident in Manhattan that killed two people and for which owner James Lomma was tried and acquitted of manslaughter, the New York Times notes.
