A grand jury decided today not to indict the officer who shot 22-year-old Noel Polanco during a traffic stop on Grand Central Parkway last year. Polanco was driving home from work in the early morning hours with two women, including an off-duty cop who was asleep in the backseat, and pulled over after cutting off an unmarked police vehicle. Detective Hassan Hamdy fired through the passenger-side window and claimed he thought Polanco was reaching for a gun under the seat. The woman sitting next to the slain National Guardsman blamed “police road rage” and said his hands never left the steering wheel. No weapon was found.
