Around two weeks ago, the ticket for the second-largest Powerball jackpot ever was purchased by one person at a Publix supermarket in Zephyrhills. The winner still has yet to reveal themselves, leaving everyone to wonder what will happen to the $590 million prize. The Associated Press says that if the Powerball jackpot isn’t claimed within 180 days from the draw date, “the funds to pay the unclaimed jackpot will be returned to the lottery members in their proportion of sales for the jackpot rollover series.” The real tragedy here is that the Florida community known for its spring water, skydiving, and senior mobile home parks won’t get to celebrate their hometown hero before promptly hitting them up for rent money.
