Heads Have Finally Rolled at KTVU Over Those Fake Pilot Names

Since San Francisco station KTVU reenacted a scene from Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy while reporting on the crash of Asiana Flight 214, broadcasting the pilots’ names as “Sum Ting Wong,” “Wi Tu Lo,” and so on, the only consequences we’d heard about were for the NTSB intern who confirmed the bogus names to the station. That changed on Wednesday, when the Fox affiliate fired three staffers: investigative producer Roland DeWolk, special projects producer Cristina Gastelu and producer Brad Belstock. Bay Area media blogger Rich Lieberman, who first reported the firings, writes that he’s hearing more could follow. The fake names “came to the station via e-mail from an expert source who had provided information to the station in the past,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Stay classy, San Francisco.
