A Bronx jury blamed the Fire Department for a 12-year-old girl left paralyzed and mute after paramedics lacking the necessary equipment opted to wait 20 minutes for a private backup ambulance instead of rushing her to a nearby hospital. While the verdict will be appealed, the New York Times reports, “It was one of the largest awards of its kind in city history.”
