Following last night’s playoff win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals supporters, known around the league as the Best Fans in Baseball™, encountered a “Justice for Mike Brown” protest outside of Busch Stadium, for the teenager killed by a police officer in nearby Ferguson. As the young, mostly black demonstrators chanted and waved signs, the very white baseball contingent took it upon themselves to counter with a “Let’s go Cardinals!” chant that quickly became a “Let’s go Darren!” chant — as in Wilson, who has still not been arrested or charged — and devolved from there into a hideous display of flat-out public racism, screamed proudly into a camera.
Deadspin listed the lowlights, including a man suggesting, “If they’d be working, we wouldn’t have this problem.”
“We’re the ones who fuckin’ gave all y’all the freedom that you got,” yells a seemingly inebriated small blonde woman. “You ain’t got no respect. Yeah, bitch,” she adds. Later, she begins chanting, “Africa! Africa! Africa! Africa!” at the group.
“Remove your hat,” screams another white bro at the black crowd. “Pull up your pants!”
