A gigantic metal drill operated by an MTA contractor narrowly missed piercing the roof of a crowded F train at the 21st Street–Queensbridge station in Long Island City on Thursday. And you thought your commute was bad.
The Post reports that contractors were attempting to dig a well around 11:45 a.m. yesterday when the ten-inch drill bit missed its mark and almost skewered the roof of an F train carrying about 800 passengers:
The operator heard a thundering noise on the roof and stopped the subway with the emergency brakes — and then discovered the drill extending from the roof of the tunnel to the floor, which struck down just inches from the side of the train, officials said.
The noise shattered a bunch of the train’s glass windows, and riders were forced to walk to a rescue train that pulled up behind the stalled subway.
This is only the second-worst thing to happen to the F train in recent weeks. We all know what the first was.
