After informally declaring his intention to run for president in a Festivus tweet, sources tell the New York Times that Rand Paul is eyeing April 7 for his official 2016 announcement. That would likely make the Kentucky senator the first candidate to formally enter the race (as opposed to creating an “exploratory committee”), and give him ten months to raise money before the Iowa caucuses. Considering that Paul already produced an audio skit, a Facebook meme, and a fake Pinterest board aimed at mocking people he isn’t actually running against, Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush should be prepared to find all of their office supplies encased in Jell-O on April 8.
